Sort Sol (DK) Live @ Vera, Groningen. NL October 1987 (2025 Re-Rip)

Sort Sol
1980s1987RareLiveyoutube

Excellent & rare Dutch FM radio broadcast of when SORT SOL played at the Vera Club in Groningen,The Netherlands in October 1987. SORT SOL started off ofcourse as the underground cult punk band THE SODS & changed their name ( & line-up & style) to SORT SOL in 1984. They remind me of a sort of mix of BIRTHDAY PARTY, HEAD OF DAVID & the psyche buzz of SPACEMEN 3. Killer stuff. 6 tracks in 19 minutes. Ripped from a 38 year old tape dub.

About This Footage

The re-ripped footage of Sort Sol's live performance at Vera Club in Groningen, Netherlands, on October 1987, is a rare gem that offers a glimpse into the Danish rock band's evolution and style during the mid-80s.

Formed in 1977 as Sods, a punk rock outfit, Sort Sol underwent significant changes in the early 80s, including a name change, lineup adjustments, and a shift in musical direction. This clip, recorded nearly four decades ago, captures the band's sound at a pivotal moment in their career. The six tracks performed within the 18:25 duration provide an intimate look at Sort Sol's live energy during this period.

The Vera Club performance is notable not only for its rarity but also for its historical significance. In the late 80s, underground and alternative scenes were gaining momentum across Europe, with bands like Sort Sol contributing to this movement. This clip serves as a time capsule, preserving the essence of an era when punk, post-punk, and psychedelic sounds were blending together in innovative ways.

The YouTube description's comparison of Sort Sol to Birthday Party, Head of David, and Spacemen 3 is apt, highlighting the band's affinity for experimental and avant-garde sounds. These influences are evident in the clip, where Sort Sol's performance showcases a unique blend of raw energy, atmospheric textures, and psychedelic explorations.

The fact that this footage was ripped from a 38-year-old tape dub underscores its rarity and the challenges involved in preserving such historical recordings. The re-rip process ensures that the audio quality is improved, making it possible for new generations to appreciate Sort Sol's music and legacy.

This clip also invites reflection on the evolution of rock music during the 80s. As punk's influence began to wane, bands like Sort Sol were pushing the boundaries of the genre, incorporating elements from post-punk, psychedelia, and avant-garde sounds. This performance at Vera Club represents a critical moment in this transition, demonstrating how artists were experimenting with new styles and textures.

The rarity and historical significance of this footage make it an essential addition to any collection of live recordings. For fans of underground rock and those interested in the evolution of 80s music, Sort Sol's performance at Vera Club is a must-see. The clip provides an opportunity to experience the band's unique sound during a pivotal moment in their career, offering insights into the creative processes that shaped their music.
