Recorded in 1962, this footage captures the essence of Nubbit's unique style, which blended traditional blues with his own personal experiences. As a native of Georgia who spent part of his childhood there, Nubbit's music is deeply rooted in the Southern blues tradition. The fact that he recorded "Georgia Chain Gang" in Boston, Massachusetts, adds an interesting layer to his story, highlighting the transience and mobility of many African American musicians during this period.

The clip itself is a B-side on Bluestown Records single 702, which means it was initially released as a secondary track to another song. This circumstance has contributed to its relative obscurity over the years, making the footage all the more valuable for music historians and enthusiasts. The recording quality may not be exceptional by modern standards, but it provides an authentic snapshot of Nubbit's live performance in 1962.

One aspect that sets this clip apart is the biographical context provided by the YouTube description. We learn about Nubbit's nickname "Nubbit," which originated from a childhood accident involving a hurricane and his right thumb. This anecdote not only adds to our understanding of the artist but also underscores the significance of personal experiences in shaping musical styles.

The fact that Alvin Hankerson, aka Guitar Nubbit, was active during the 1960s is significant, as this period saw the rise of many influential blues musicians. While Nubbit may not have achieved widespread fame, his music and legacy are still worthy of recognition. The clip serves as a testament to the enduring power of blues music, which continues to captivate audiences with its emotional intensity and storytelling prowess.

In terms of musical significance, "Georgia Chain Gang" is notable for its own right, even if it was not widely released during Nubbit's lifetime. As a rare recording from this era, it offers valuable insights into the evolution of blues music in the early 1960s. The clip also highlights the importance of preserving and sharing historical recordings, which can provide a window into the past and shed light on forgotten artists.
