"Stupid" — Oleander | Shrinking the Blob (1997) The second track from Shrinking the Blob — and one of the two songs from this independent album that first caught the attention of Sacramento radio station 98-Rock KRXQ. Alongside "Down When I'm Loaded," "Stupid" was among the first Oleander songs to receive radio exposure — a key step in the chain of events that led to the band opening for Sugar Ray, being approached by Republic Records, and ultimately signing with Universal. This is the original independent recording — rawer and more direct than the version later re-recorded for the gold-certified February Son (1999) — and essential listening for anyone who wants to understand where Oleander's sound came from. From Shrinking the Blob — released independently on Fine Records in 1997, recorded at Mousehouse Studios in Pasadena by producer Rich Mouser — alongside "Down When I'm Loaded" and early versions of "Why I'm Here," "You'll Find Out," and "Where Were You Then."
