About This Footage

The Adam Niewood Quartet's performance of "Home With You at Last" is a rare gem that shines brightly in the archives of live jazz recordings. Captured on June 16th, 2010, during the Rochester International Jazz Festival, this 2:58-minute clip offers a unique glimpse into the musical talents of Adam Niewood and his quartet.

One of the most striking aspects of this footage is its rarity. With only a handful of live recordings available online, fans of Adam Niewood's work will be thrilled to have access to this previously unseen performance. The fact that it was recorded during a prestigious jazz festival adds an extra layer of significance, as it provides insight into the quartet's ability to perform at a high level in front of a live audience.

Composition by Gerry Niewood is also noteworthy, as it highlights the collaborative spirit of the group. As the primary composer, Gerry Niewood brings his unique perspective and style to the performance, which is then interpreted and brought to life by the talented musicians on stage. The interplay between Abe Rabade's piano, Chris Higgins' bass, Flin Van Hemmen's drums, and Adam Niewood's soprano saxophone is a testament to their skill and musicality.

The performance itself is a masterclass in jazz improvisation, with each musician contributing their own distinctive voice to the collective sound. Adam Niewood's soprano saxophone soars through the composition, his notes dancing effortlessly over the top of the rhythm section. Meanwhile, Abe Rabade's piano provides a solid foundation, anchoring the music while still allowing for plenty of space for improvisation.

The chemistry between the musicians is palpable, and it's clear that they've spent countless hours rehearsing together to achieve this level of cohesion. Even in a live setting, where anything can happen, the quartet remains focused and in tune with each other, creating a truly magical experience for the audience.
