About This Footage

Cherie Currie's 2019 collaboration with Billy Corgan, "Blvds Of Splendor", is a rare and significant artifact in the annals of rock music. This 2:04 clip captures the artist at work, alongside the Smashing Pumpkins frontman and drummer Matt Sorum, on the title track from her album of the same name.

At this point in her career, Cherie Currie was no stranger to reinvention. Having co-founded the Runaways as a teenager, she had already made waves with her raw, unbridled energy and distinctive vocals. As the lead singer of that iconic band, she helped shape the sound of early 1970s punk and proto-punk. Her later solo work, including the duet "Since You Been Gone" with sister Marie Currie, showcased a more polished but no less captivating style.

What makes this clip remarkable is its juxtaposition of Cherie Currie's past and present selves. Here, she's working alongside two artists from a different era – Billy Corgan and Matt Sorum – on an album that blends her classic rock sensibilities with their signature alt-rock sound. This fusion is not only a testament to Currie's enduring influence but also a nod to the ever-evolving landscape of rock music.

The clip itself is notable for its intimacy, offering a glimpse into the creative process behind "Blvds Of Splendor". We see Cherie Currie, Billy Corgan, and Matt Sorum huddled around microphones, trading vocals and instrumentation in a spirit of camaraderie. The chemistry between them is palpable, a testament to the power of collaboration and artistic exchange.

For fans of the Runaways and those who followed Cherie Currie's solo career, this clip will be a thrilling reminder of her enduring legacy. For newcomers, it offers an introduction to an artist whose influence extends far beyond her own work – one who has inspired generations of musicians and helped shape the sound of rock music as we know it.

The fact that "Blvds Of Splendor" was released on Blackheart Records, a label founded by Joan Jett in 1983, adds another layer to this story. This clip is not only a testament to Cherie Currie's continued relevance but also a celebration of the DIY ethos and feminist spirit that defined the punk and new wave movements.

As we watch Cherie Currie and Billy Corgan trade vocals on "Blvds Of Splendor", it's impossible not to think about the countless artists who have been inspired by her work. From Joan Jett to St. Vincent, the influence of Cherie Currie can be heard in the music of many contemporary women – a testament to her enduring impact and the power of her art.

Ultimately, this clip is more than just a behind-the-scenes look at an album's creation; it's a reminder of the transformative power of rock music and the artists who shape its sound. As we witness Cherie Currie, Billy Corgan, and Matt Sorum working together in harmony, we're reminded that even in an era of constant change, some things remain timeless – like the spirit of collaboration and creativity that defines this clip.
