About This Footage

Cherie Currie's unmistakable voice pierces through the din of The Streetwalkin' Cheetahs' garage-rock rendition of "Cherry Bomb", a 1974 Ramones classic. This 2022 music video is notable not only for its nostalgic value but also for its significance in the context of Cherie Currie's enduring career.

At the time this footage was filmed, Cherie Currie had already established herself as a trailblazing female rock musician. As the lead vocalist of the Runaways, she helped pave the way for future generations of women in the industry. Her raw, emotive voice and unapologetic stage presence made her an icon among fans and peers alike. This reputation was cemented by the band's 1976 album "Queens of Noise", which remains a staple of punk rock history.

The fact that Currie is featured on this cover of "Cherry Bomb" speaks to her continued relevance in the music world. The Streetwalkin' Cheetahs, a Los Angeles-based garage-rock outfit, have clearly sought out a collaborator who embodies the spirit of 1970s punk and new wave. By teaming up with Currie, they tap into a rich musical heritage that continues to inspire contemporary artists.

What makes this clip rare or significant is its juxtaposition of two distinct eras. The raw energy and unbridled enthusiasm of "Cherry Bomb" are unmistakably rooted in the 1970s punk scene, while the production quality and visual aesthetic of the music video reflect a more modern sensibility. This blend of old and new creates a captivating viewing experience that will resonate with fans of both eras.

As Currie's voice soars through the chorus, her signature growl and inflection unmistakable, it becomes clear why she remains an enduring figure in rock music. Her unique style has influenced countless artists over the years, from Joan Jett to Debbie Harry. This 2022 music video is a testament to her continued creativity and willingness to collaborate with emerging talent.

The viewer will take away from watching this clip a sense of nostalgia for the raw energy of 1970s punk rock, as well as an appreciation for Currie's enduring influence on contemporary music.
