Huge 4680 Delivery, 41/68 Megapacks, S end Steel Erection! 14 July 2023 Giga Texas Update (07:35AM)
Gigafactory Texas on 14 July 2023! This is where Model Y’s are built and soon Cyber Truck production will start! A ton of activity today including the 41st Megapack arrival, big battery production equipment at the 4680-production area, steel column and beam assembly & installation on the south end, and what appears to be a complete re-planning for the east battery cathode plant structures! Also, I'm working on several 3-year anniversary videos that will begin to be published sometime next week, so I hope you will enjoy this lookback at the (hard to believe) 3 years of drone coverage of this amazing project. Timestamps: Drone flight overview with discussion & illustration: 0:06 to 3:59 Drone flight footage & infographics: 4:05 to 31:43 Some additional highlights to look for in the video: As mentioned, steel erection and assembly on the south end for the building extension is underway. There is some speculation that priority was given to this initial section to allow for the installation of more large stamping presses and other equipment and have the bridge cranes in place for this assembly. It is likely the existing length of the building in this area was not long enough and will contain equipment needed for continued production ramping. Inside stamping 2, we get a really good view of the newly assembled stamping press on the south end of the east bay. This brings the total to either 6 or 7 huge stamping machines at Giga Texas, with room for at least two more in the west bay of stamping 2! The west main entrance steel "tunnel" architecturally structure continues to get stainless-steel cladding and lighting channels installed, and at present, I'd say the crews are about 50% completed with this project. At the west side of the 4680-battery cell production section of the main factory, many large, oversized, and heavy equipment items and crates are being delivered today. There is a SPMT (Self-Propelled Modular Transporter) being used to move these items inside. On the north end of this same structure, trucks were delivering large steel beams and columns, physically driving inside the building through one of the large loading doors. This indicates even more construction is underway on the inside ground floor portion of this structure, likely in the middle area where previously I had noted some of the internal structure here was initially left incomplete. The Megapack site continues to be very busy, with the 41st Megapack arriving and being installed, all 34 of the transformers now installed, and large "V-shaped" electrical circuit breakers delivered on the north end. More trenching is underway to connect the Megapack site to the south end of the electrical switchyard. Crews were preparing to pour the first roof section of the underground vault at the south end of the electrical switchyard today, with one pump truck already set up and concrete trucks arriving at the time of my drone flight. Once this section has concrete poured, crews will move further to the east and begin installing forms to allow more concrete pours on the next segments of walls. The final area I'll highlight today is the east side of the battery cathode plant, where the entirety of the recently poured concrete ground slab for what is suspected to be a raw material staging location has been broken up and removed. This includes the central drainage trench and plumbing. I can only assess that a major plan change occurred late in the construction process, and is so extensive in scope, the entire ground slab shape, function, and structure has been revised, and the crews will be starting over from the beginning. I have no idea why such a major change in plans has taken place, but it is a strange development. Thank you for watching and I hope this has been informative, educational, and entertaining for you.
