About Bessie Tucker

Blues singer and songwriter, best known for "Penitentiary" and "Fryin' Pan Skillet Blues". No details are known about this singer, except that lyrics imply that she was from East Texas. She recorded 18 titles (one remain unissued), many with alternative takes. She recorded for Victor, with a first session in August 1928 in Memphis, Tennessee, accompanied by pianist K.D. Johnson. She recorded again in Dallas in August and October 1929, accompanied by K.D. Johnson, and by guitarist Jesse Thomas.
