- Part 5 of “Rock girls from the 90’s” cover series! - According to singer/guitarist Tanya Donelly, this song is “a metaphor about commitment and respect, with the tree being on a large farm where family generations are buried under”. This song reached #1 on the Billboard Modern Rock charts in 1993. - Official video added for Totally Christina: https://youtu.be/RQJjUbMrt8w Her channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_rS9PSL1VAC2PZusaRHoRA - Belly was formed in Rhode Island in 1991 after Donelly was previously a founding member of the band Throwing Muses during the 1980s. The Breeders, along with Pixies bassist Kim Deal was a side project for both Donelly and Deal. (*FYI... I tried to upload a Breeders cover but was copyright blocked 😞 ). In December 1991, Donelly formed Belly as guitarist, vocalist and songwriter, with Thomas Gorman on lead guitar, Chris Gorman on drums, and Fred Abong (previously with Throwing Muses) on bass guitar. This group would become her primary creative focus for the next few years, as Donelly's participation in The Breeders faded after the 1992 release of the Safari EP. With the huge success of “Feed the Tree” in 1993, Belly was also nominated for two Grammy Awards (Best New Artist and Best Alternative Music Performance) and won two Boston Music Awards the same year. In 1995 their second album didn’t achieve as much success partly due to a change of musical style. It didn’t have the vocal harmonies and driving rock sound as their first one. Belly broke up in 1996 and Tanya pursued a solo career. - Recorded live and raw with EV PA and iPhone8
