After a period away with wrist issues and life generally being very busy, I'm back with a new #basslineteardown cover video. This time it's Belly's 1992 single, Gepetto, released almost exactly 30 years ago to the day. This song features Belly's founding but soon ex-bassist Fred Abong (also in Throwing Muses). There's a lot going on in the bassline for such a short song including harmonics, slides, hammer-ons, pumping triplets and octave runs. The tuning is pitched slightly sharp - I set A on my tuner to 444Hz. Here's the original video, with notable lack of bass player: https://youtu.be/SBi676v4Gs4 Here's a live TV performance from 1993 introduced by a bemused looking Bob Geldof: https://youtu.be/8reLhwZY8nQ And another appearance from around the same time on the BBC with new bassist, Gail Greenwood: https://youtu.be/2mAD_wxNpE8 More recently, here's the reformed band in 2018 still sounding great making a festival appearance in Boston: https://youtu.be/b_7eCeD0xB8 Gepetto, written by Tanya Donelly Bass played by Fred Abong (down in the mix) Bass: Music Man Caprice Bass Strings: DR Sunbeams (Roundwound 105/85/65/45) Amp: Lehle Basswitch IQ DI and Ampeg PF-50T via Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 into PC FX: mix of one clean channel straight from Basswitch with some post-EQ and compression and one with Aguilar TLC compressor, Darkglass Alpha-Omega Ultra EQ and EBS Dynaverb via the Ampeg with Ultra Lo EQ.
