PAIN IN MY HEART, The Dells, Vee-Jay #258 1957 Flipside: TIME MAKES YOU CHANGE Here is another great uncharted song from my collection. The Dells are one of the great R & B groups of our time. They all hailed from Harvey, Illinois and started singing in 1954 calling themselves The ElRays. Group members were Johnny Funches, Michael McGill, Verne Allison, Charles Barksdale and Marvin Junior. What is really amazing is that none of the many songs The Dells recorded in the 1950's were ever charted nationally on Billboard. Their signature song OH WHAT A NIGHT, Vee-Jay #204, 1956 never charted. In 1968 they re-recorded OH WHAT A NIGHT on Cadette #5649 and it charted in 1969 for 11 weeks and reached #10 nationally. From 1968 to 1974 they had 24 songs charted nationally. Their biggest song STAY IN MY CORNER, Cadette #5612 charted nationally on Billboard in August 1968 for 13 weeks and reached #10. PAIN IN MY HEART was written by group members Marvin Junior and Johnny Funches and was also recorded by The Enchantments in 1963 (Ritz 17003.) Enjoy this great ballad by the MIGHTY DELLS!
