About This Footage

This rare footage of Corey Henry performing on the Roli Seaboard Rise at NAMM 2016 is a fascinating glimpse into the innovative world of electronic music and its intersection with traditional jazz. The clip, which clocks in at 8:10 minutes, showcases Henry's exceptional trombone skills as he navigates the unique sonic landscape of the Seaboard.

As an artist from New Orleans, Henry brings a rich cultural heritage to his music, one that is deeply rooted in the city's vibrant jazz tradition. Growing up in the Treme neighborhood, Henry was exposed to the sounds and rhythms of Congo Square, which has played a significant role in shaping American music. His early training on drums before switching to trombone at age 10 reflects the versatility and eclecticism that defines his artistry.

The Roli Seaboard Rise is an intriguing instrument that allows for expressive control over pitch and timbre through gestures and movements. In this clip, Henry's fingers dance across its surface as he coaxes a wide range of tonal colors from the device. The result is a captivating blend of electronic and acoustic textures that underscores the trombonist's remarkable technical facility.

One of the most striking aspects of this performance is the interplay between Henry and drummer Cleon Edwards. Their chemistry is palpable, with each musician responding intuitively to the other's rhythmic cues. This level of communication and trust is a hallmark of great jazz playing, where individual expression is balanced by a deep sense of ensemble cohesion.

The fact that this footage has been tagged as "Rare" underscores its significance within the context of electronic music and new instrument design. The Roli Seaboard Rise was still a relatively new innovation in 2016, and Henry's performance represents one of the earliest recorded instances of a musician using this device in a live setting.

From an artistic perspective, this clip offers valuable insights into Henry's creative process and his willingness to experiment with novel sounds and technologies. His ability to adapt and innovate while remaining true to his jazz roots is a testament to his status as a visionary artist.

The audio quality, although not explicitly mentioned in the facts, is likely to be of high fidelity given the context of NAMM 2016. The YouTube description's recommendation to "LISTEN WITH EARPHONES" suggests that the clip is best appreciated with careful attention to detail and sonic nuance.

Overall, this rare footage of Corey Henry on the Roli Seaboard Rise at NAMM 2016 is a must-watch for anyone interested in electronic music, jazz innovation, or the intersection of technology and traditional artistry.
