At just over two minutes long, this clip is a tantalizing snippet of the artist's formative years, providing a unique window into his creative process and musical influences.

Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, Henry was raised in the city's vibrant Treme neighborhood, an area steeped in rich musical heritage. The proximity to Congo Square, a historic hub for African music and culture, undoubtedly played a significant role in shaping Henry's artistic identity. This clip serves as a testament to the artist's early dedication to his craft, with Henry himself acknowledging the challenge of emulating his own exceptional talent.

The trombone, an instrument often overlooked in favor of more flashy brass instruments, is showcased here in all its glory. Henry's mastery of the trombone is evident from a young age, as he effortlessly navigates complex melodies and harmonies. His technical proficiency is matched only by his expressive phrasing, imbuing each note with a sense of purpose and feeling.

This clip also highlights the importance of mentorship and family in shaping an artist's development. Henry credits Uncle Benny Jones, Sr., a member of the Treme Brass Band, as one of his early influences. This familial connection speaks to the deep-seated tradition of musical apprenticeship that exists within New Orleans' jazz community.

The clip's title, "Learning to be as good as Corey Henry (part 1)", is both humorous and revealing. While the clip's brevity may be frustrating for some viewers, it serves as a reminder of the importance of context in understanding an artist's development. Rather than providing a comprehensive overview of Henry's skills, this snippet instead offers a glimpse into his early struggles and triumphs. It invites the viewer to consider the long hours of practice, the countless performances, and the unwavering dedication that have contributed to Henry's status as a master musician.
