U.P. WILSON LIVE AT THE 100 CLUB, LONDON 1998 A blues music documentary featuring a performance from U.P Wilson, the Texas Blues Guitar Tornado recorded at The 100 Club in London, England on 17th March 1998. The first in a series of contemporary blues video recordings from the 1990’s. U.P. Wilson was a legend of the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas blues scene and had played with notable bluesmen such as Zuzu Bollin, Frankie Lee Simms and Robert Ealey. He was enjoying an ‘Indian Summer’ of a career with frequent European visits and festival appearances when In 1998, after many years away, I had gone back to the famous 100 Club in London to promote a series of gigs, one of which was The Texas Blues Guitar Tornado himself, U.P Wilson. And what a show it was. This is a rare record of U.P.’s unique show, his tough blues guitar with all his tricks and showmanship that he was able to do because he was just so good. As well as the show there is a fascinating interview with U.P. and a rare chance to see a great musician at the sound check with his band including drummer Steve Meek who was U.P.’s bandleader/ manager during those years. Luckily too, this was the period when a dedicated bunch of people called Blues Archive were filming visiting bluesmen and creating an amazing body of work at a truly unique period when there was still a whole crowd of really world class blues artists touring regularly and playing in clubs. As with so many American musicians before him U.P. ended his life living comfortably in Paris. JOHN STEDMAN – JSP RECORDS DIRECTED AND PRODUCED BY PAUL REED – BLUES ARCHIVE Available from Amazon Prime Video.
