About This Footage

In the depths of White Noise Studio, a sonic maelstrom erupted on November 3rd, 2013. The Dutch math rock outfit MNHM unleashed their unbridled energy upon the world in this rare studio session, captured for posterity by the keen eye of the White Noise Sessions team.

At the time of recording, MNHM was still a relatively new entity, having formed in 2012 and already begun working on their debut album 'SUPER-EMPOWERED' under the guidance of renowned producer Rene Rutten. The band's sound, characterized by grinding baritone sax, noisy guitars, and pounding drums, was an instant fusion of influences from ZU to ASIWYFA. Theirs was a sound that defied traditional song forms, instead embracing complex rhythmic structures, counterpoint, and extended chords.

This 24-minute clip is more than just a rare glimpse into the band's creative process; it's a testament to their unwavering commitment to their art. In an era where math rock has become increasingly mainstream, MNHM's early work stands out as a bold, unapologetic statement of intent. Their music is not for the faint of heart – it's a maelstrom of sound that assaults and subverts expectations.

The White Noise Studio sessions are a treasure trove of rare and previously unheard material from some of the most innovative bands in the underground scene. MNHM's session, recorded just months before the release of 'SUPER-EMPOWERED', offers a unique insight into their creative process. The band's energy is palpable as they tear through a series of intense, instrumental workouts.

One of the most striking aspects of this clip is its raw, unbridled energy. MNHM's music is not polished or refined – it's a visceral, gut-wrenching experience that strips away the veneer of professionalism and exposes the band's true intentions. This is music that's made to be felt, not thought about.

The fact that MNHM returned to White Noise Studio in 2017 to record a second session speaks volumes about their dedication to their craft. The band's willingness to push themselves creatively, to experiment and take risks, is a hallmark of the best math rock bands. And it's this very spirit of innovation that makes their music so compelling – they're not content to simply repeat what's come before; instead, they're constantly seeking new ways to express themselves.

As we watch MNHM tear through these instrumental workouts, it's impossible not to be drawn in by the sheer force of their creativity. This is a band that's unafraid to take risks, to push the boundaries of what's possible with music. And it's this very fearlessness that makes their music so compelling – they're not content to simply play it safe; instead, they're constantly seeking new ways to express themselves.
