An Electronic Press Kit (EPK) for "Distilled", the fourth full-length and first independent album from the Syracuse, New York-based hard rock band BRAND NEW SIN, can be viewed below. The CD's first single with Kris Wiechmann (guitarist, principal songwriter and lyricist) on lead vocals, entitled "Summertime", was recorded at Subcat Music Studios in Skaneateles, New York. BRAND NEW SIN recently parted ways with singer Joe Sweet. According to the group, Sweet left BRAND NEW SIN earlier in the year in order to focus on his family and his many personal endeavors. "As the co-organizer of the Utica Music and Arts Fest and the proud father-to-be (for the second time in June), Joe decided that the best move is to back out before recording vocal tracks for BRAND NEW SIN's fourth full-length album," the band said in a statement. After 10-plus years of sharing the stage with bassist Chuck Kahl and guitarist Kris Wiechmann (in both GODBELOW and BRAND NEW SIN), guitarist Kenny Dunham also left BRAND NEW SIN to pursue other interests. BRAND NEW SIN recently announced the addition of guitarist Ed Carpenter (TITANIUM BLACK) to the group's ranks. The band's acclaimed album "Tequila" was released in 2006 via Century Media Records. The CD was recorded at Method of Groove studios in Brooklyn with producer Joey Z (LIFE OF AGONY, STEREOMUD). The disc, mastered by the acclaimed George Marino (METALLICA, AC/DC, GUNS N' ROSES) at Sterling Sound, featured a guest vocal appearance by Peter Steele (TYPE O NEGATIVE) on the track "Reaper Man".

About This Footage

The 2009 EPK documentary for Life of Agony's contemporaries, Brand New Sin, is a fascinating glimpse into the world of alternative metal in the late 2000s. At this time, Life of Agony was already an established force in the genre, having released their debut album River Runs Red to critical acclaim in 1993. The band's vocalist, Keith Caputo, had become known for his raw, emotive delivery and poetic lyrics.

Brand New Sin, on the other hand, was navigating a period of transition. The departure of lead singer Joe Sweet and guitarist Kenny Dunham had left the band reeling, but they were determined to press on with their fourth full-length album, Distilled. The addition of guitarist Ed Carpenter marked a new chapter for the group, and this EPK documentary provides an intimate look at their creative process.

One of the most striking aspects of this footage is its candid portrayal of the band's struggles and triumphs. The camera captures the band members' raw emotions as they discuss their experiences with Sweet's departure and the challenges of recording a new album without their original lead vocalist. This level of vulnerability is rare in music industry documentation, making the EPK all the more compelling.

The documentary also offers a glimpse into the world of alternative metal at the time, highlighting the camaraderie and shared passions that defined this community. The band members' enthusiasm for their craft is palpable, even as they grapple with the uncertainties of their future. This sense of authenticity makes the EPK feel more like a personal letter from the band to their fans than a polished marketing tool.

One of the most notable aspects of Brand New Sin's story is their association with other influential bands in the genre. The album Tequila, released in 2006 via Century Media Records, featured a guest vocal appearance by Peter Steele (Type O Negative), cementing the band's reputation within the metal community. This connection to other respected artists adds depth and context to the EPK, underscoring the band's commitment to their craft.

As viewers watch this documentary, they will gain a deeper appreciation for the challenges faced by bands in the alternative metal scene during this period. They will also witness the resilience and determination of Brand New Sin as they navigate change and uncertainty. The EPK offers a unique perspective on the world of music at the turn of the decade, one that is both intimate and revealing.

The footage concludes with a sense of anticipation, as the band prepares to release their new album Distilled. This feeling of possibility lingers long after the documentary ends, leaving viewers eager to explore more of Brand New Sin's music and the world they inhabit. The 2009 EPK documentary for Life of Agony's contemporaries is a must-see for fans of alternative metal, offering a rare glimpse into the creative process and the personal struggles that define this genre.
