Clennon Lee Blakes (Sonny Blake) filmed for the BBC's Devil's Music series narrated by the brilliant Alexis Korner back in the late 70s. The original colours were abit washed out so I've hopefully brightened it up abit and gave it a bit more vibrancy... I don't make anything putting these videos together so please support the channel with the link here if you can its greatly appreciated! https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/bluesincolour Sonny Blake (born on the 4th January 1923) was a Memphis-based singer and harmonica player known for the unique 'bottom upwards' harp technique that he vigilantly toured all over the Memphis blues scene throughout the 70s and early 80s. Sonny Blake: Vocals & Harmonica Joe 'Willie' Wilkins: Guitar L T Lewis: Drums At 15 years of age, Joe Willie was playing with Rice Miller Sonny Boy II on the King Biscuit Flour Hour in West Helena, AK. The station had one of the strongest signals in the Mid-south. Joe's blazing, fierce single-string attack on his amplified Gibson L5 was one of the most influential sounds in Post-war electric blues. Sadly he never left Memphis and eventually stopped performing, until the early 70's when he resumed playing locally. "Bring It On Home" was written by the legendary bass player, arranger and songwriter Willie Dixon. Sonny Boy Williamson II was the first to record the song on January 11, 1963, in Chicago. He alternates his vocal sections with harmonica phrases, accompanied by Matt "Guitar" Murphy on guitar, Milton Rector on bass guitar, Al Duncan on drums, and either Lafayette Leake or Billy Emerson on organ. "Bring It On Home" was released three years later in early 1966, when it was included on the Chess Records Williamson compilation The Real Folk Blues. In 1969, Led Zeppelin recorded a version of "Bring It On Home" for the band's second album Led Zeppelin II. The intro and outro were deliberate homages to the Sonny Boy Williamson song If any videos get blocked I tend to post them on my other social media platforms, so have a look if you don't want to miss anything!
