1958 was John Coltrane’s breakthrough “sheets of sound” year. COLTRANE ’58: THE PRESTIGE RECORDINGS box set, out March 29th on #CraftRecordings, chronicles the emergence of a master improviser session by session, chronologically featuring all 37 tracks Coltrane recorded as a leader or co-leader for Prestige Records that year. By sequencing this music in the order of its original creation for the first time, Coltrane ’58 tells the definitive story of Coltrane’s first great career crest. The timely release of Coltrane ’58 marks the 70th year since the founding of #PrestigeRecords and comes just after the 60th anniversary of these recordings. Produced by Nick Phillips, the vinyl box includes eight 180-gram LPs, remastered from the original analog tapes by Paul Blakemore (all of which were recorded by renowned engineer Rudy Van Gelder) and cut by Clint Holley from 24-bit/192kHz transfers. The lavish, linen-wrapped, portfolio-style book features an eye-catching design and includes 40 pages containing extensive liner notes by Grammy-winning American music historian Ashley Kahn, rare ephemera and historical photographs of the saxophonist and his collaborators, including several taken by renowned jazz photographers Francis Wolff and Esmond Edwards. The 5-CD edition, containing a 76-page book, is a faithful replica of the 8-LP vinyl box. 8-LP & 5-CD editions available for pre-order now: http://smarturl.it/58BoxSet Follow #JohnColtrane http://facebook.com/johncoltrane http://instagram.com/johncoltrane http://twitter.com/johncoltrane http://johncoltrane.com

R.E.M. was noted for Buck's arpeggiated "jangle" guitar playing; Stipe's distinctive vocal style, unique stage presence, and cryptic lyrics; Mills's countermelodic bass lines and backing vocals; and Berry's tight, economical drumming. In the early 1990s, other alternative rock acts suc...
