Nothing gets you better at improvising solos, then constantly improvising solos a lot! But there are some jazz improvisation exercises that you can do to help condition yourself in ways that will eventually improve the the way you improvise and strengthen a few key areas. The three main things that EVERYONE can work on is really "making the changes" (outlining the harmony really well), playing more interesting rhythms, and leaving space in your improvisations so that you and the people you play with can have a musical conversation. Adam Smale will show you three of the the best Jazz improvisation exercises that you should practice in order to strengthen the way you approach jazz soloing. Since improvisation is so important in Jazz, it's really necessary to improve your jazz solos by do practicing exercises that can get you closer to a real-world situation so you don't have to think too much when you are improvising.
