Darby Mills was watching friends rehearse their high school band. “A GUY can’t sing Anne Wilson from Heart!” “Oh yeah? Well then, YOU sing it!” And that’s how it all began. After proving she could indeed sing the likes of Anne Wilson from Heart, she discovered Janis Joplin and Robert Plant and her direction became clear. She is a rocker through and through. Brian “Too Loud” MacLeod caught Darby singing for her band Steelback in 1980, and brought her in as the lead singer of his new project, The Headpins. It was truly the right time for this brand of rock, and with double platinum record sales in Canada The Headpins toured the world with the likes of Whitesnake, ZZ Top, Harlequin, The Pretenders, Bryan Adams, Eddie Money, Vince Neil, Poison, Pat After nearly four decades of recording and touring with someone else at the wheel, Mills went solo in 2018, with the Darby Mills Project. Back on the road, and with the release of a live album as well as a documentary, “The Queen of Scream”, she is happy to be in “the driver’s seat” and looks forward to doing so much more.
