Josh White - Outskirts of Town
"Put your man in your bedroom, put your husband down on the floor." Josh White plays with distinctive vocals & distinctive picking. His music is still very current today. "Outskirts of Town" is on the compilation album of his works, "Josh White/Free and Equal Blues" released in 1998. The material is from the Archive Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage and was released on the Smithsonian Folkways Recordings label. These songs were recorded in the 40's at the height of his popularity. He is accompanied on some songs by such greats as Lead Belly. Most of the songs are sung solo. Born February 11, 1914 in Greenville, South Carolina, died September 5, 1969 in Manhasset, N.Y. American singer, guitarist, songwriter, actor, and civil rights activist. Some of his recordings in the mid-1930s were released as by Pinewood Tom. He was one of the most popular and influential folksingers in America in the mid-20th century.
