Unusual in her musical approach this Interfaith artiste breaks the stereotypes to promote cultural and linguistic diversity of India working assiduously in 30 indigenous and endangered Indian vernaculars of over 16000 songs. Kalpana Patowary took Indian folk music to Commonwealth Games 2018 showcasing 5 Indian dialects in the Closing Ceremony held in Queensland Australia. She is archiving and preserving the vast intangible heritage of Indias diverse culture through her mellifluous renditions in audio visual forms. Reviving the magic of the Bhojpuri social activist and playwright Bhikhari Thakur, Kalpana Patowary helped elevate the profile of this particular singing form and took it to Sangeet Natak Akademi a respected cultural platform of Govt of India in 2017 Chhapra Bihar. Today she is recognised as the greatest exponent of Bhikhari Thakur Lokgayan. Kalpana Patowary is the first woman to record and sing in the Chhaprahiya Purvi folk form. Prior to her work Purvi was a male preserve.
