Unusual in her musical approach this Interfaith artiste breaks the stereotypes to promote cultural and linguistic diversity of folk music in India working assiduously in 30 indigenous and endangered Indian vernaculars of over 16000 songs. * Kalpana Patowary is the first woman to record and sing in the Bhojpuri Chhaprahiya Purvi style.Prior to her work, Purvi was a male preserve. * She took Indian folk music to Commonwealth Games 2018 showcasing 5 Indian dialects in the Closing Ceremony held in Queensland Australia. * She is archiving and preserving the vast intangible heritage of India’s diverse culture through her mellifluous renditions in audio visual forms and has been credited with taking Bhojpuri and tribal Assamese music to higher places of musical achievement while heightening respectability owing to her years of research and study into the ethos of Indian folk music. * Coming out from a different cultural background of North Eastern state Assam to unfamiliar direction of Bhojpuri folk music, Kalpana considers this this as a very rare phenomena of her persona, going the extra miles to set herself as the role model and cultural bridge, respecting the differences of diverse and tolerant India. * Influenced by the bard of Brahmaputra Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika, Kalpana Patowary took her early lessons on folk music from her folksinger father Bipin Patowary at the tender age of 4 in Assam. * Reviving the magic of Bhikhari Thakur, the Bhojpuri social activist and playwright, Kalpana Patowary helped elevate the profile of this particular singing form and becomes the greatest exponent of Bhikhari Thakur Lokgayan. * Suriname newspaper published her image in their front page in 2014 honouring her as the Bhojpuri Wonderkind. * 25 students from Stanford University California came to Mumbai to study her work on Bhikhari Thakur in colloquial Bhojpuri language. * She has a rare honour of presenting Gangasnan, Bhikhari Thakurs incantation on mighty Ganges during Indian Prime minister honourable Narendra Modi and Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abes Benaras banquet 2015. * She reenacted Gandhiji’s arrival at Motihari on the occasion of 100 years of CHAMPARAN SATYAGRAH giving the movement a musical tribute. Kalpana Patowary, also credited professionally as Kalpana, is an Indian folk and playback singer and politician from Assam. She has recorded songs and folk music in several Indian languages, with Bhojpuri music being the major genre. Due to her contribution to Bhojpuri music, she is often referred to by the moniker "Bhojpuri Queen".
