About This Footage

In the dimly lit corridors of a backstage area, Cherie Currie sits poised and unflappable, her piercing gaze meeting the lens with an air of quiet confidence. The footage, shot in April 2020, is a rare and intimate glimpse into the life of one of rock's most enigmatic figures.

At the height of their fame in the mid-to-late 1970s, Cherie Currie fronted the Runaways, a trailblazing all-girl band from Los Angeles that defied convention with their raw energy and unapologetic attitude. Alongside Joan Jett, Lita Ford, and Sandy West, Currie's voice cut through the noise, delivering a signature blend of rebellious spirit and melodic sensibility. Their iconic single "Cherry Bomb" still echoes through the decades as a testament to the band's enduring influence.

This 21-minute interview with BackstageAxxess is a treasure trove of insights into Currie's life and career. Shot in 2020, it offers a unique perspective on an artist who has continued to evolve and thrive over the years. With her identical twin sister Marie by her side, Cherie & Marie Currie released the album Messin' With The Boys in 1980, yielding the duet "Since You Been Gone," which reached a respectable 95 on US charts.

What makes this footage so remarkable is its candid and unguarded nature. Unlike many interviews that rely on scripted questions or rehearsed responses, this conversation with BackstageAxxess feels spontaneous and natural, as if Currie has shed her public persona to reveal the person behind the legend. Her words are laced with a quiet introspection, offering glimpses into the creative process, personal struggles, and the enduring impact of the Runaways on the music world.

As she reminisces about the band's heyday, Currie's eyes light up with a mix of nostalgia and gratitude. She speaks fondly of Joan Jett, her former bandmate and close friend, and acknowledges the pivotal role the Runaways played in paving the way for future generations of female musicians. Her words are laced with a sense of pride and responsibility, acknowledging the trailblazing spirit that defined their music.

This footage is not just a nostalgic trip down memory lane; it's an opportunity to witness a true original share her story in her own words. Cherie Currie's presence on screen is a testament to her enduring legacy as a singer, songwriter, and artist. Her voice may have been silenced by the ravages of time, but her spirit remains unbroken, a beacon of inspiration for anyone who has ever dared to challenge the status quo.

As the interview draws to a close, Currie's gaze lingers on the camera, her eyes sparkling with a hint of mischief. It's as if she's sharing a secret, one that only those who have lived through the highs and lows of rock stardom can truly understand. The footage may be shot in 2020, but it feels timeless, a snapshot of an artist at peace with herself and her place in history. Watching this interview is to bear witness to a true icon, one who has left an indelible mark on the music world and continues to inspire new generations of musicians and fans alike.
