This performance video was1 year ago at the Kerrville Folk Festival. My goodness what fun! Eastside Flash on bass Herb Belofsky on drums Kenny Grimes on electric guitar The filming was done by the Texas Music Café gang out of Waco. Sittin’ around thinkin’ ‘bout Bob Dylan It’ll get me in trouble quick You see old Bobby, he’s a genius Around here they just call me stick. In the old days I tried to follow I wrote a lot of strange lines But my images were hollow I hadn’t found my own time……I hadn’t come into my own time………. Well now… he’s just a couple days older ‘n me He learned his from the streets Me…I was raised in the back woods I learned mine from the creek. I think about Bob Dylan I think about old Hank Williams I talk to Peter Rowan Every chance I get About the end Or is it the beginnin’? Well now.. I spent my time in the city Just to get a reference point Decipher all the screamin’ And get a feel for the joint And I found it was simple I found it was true If I’ll just get myself out of my way Then maybe I’ll know what to do. Like unplug the television And unload my gun Spend time teachin’ my children About the days to come. I think about Bob Dylan I think about Nostradamus I talk to Townes Van Zandt Every chance I get About the end Or is it the beginnin? I love my old pal, Bob Dylan I hear he’s on the road again I hope he stops by the house To compare notes on the end Is it gonna be a hangin’ Or just another dance Is there really enough time left Or are we just gonna kick back and grin I think about Bob Dylan And I think about Quetzalcoatl I talk to Peter Yarrow Every chance I get About the end Or is it the beginnin’? I think about Bob Dylan And I think about John Wayne I talk to mom and dad every chance I get About the end Or is it the beginin’?

About This Footage

The 2019 Kerrville Folk Festival footage of Rex Foster's performance, "Thinkin Bout Bob Dylan," is a rare treat for music enthusiasts. What makes this clip notable is not only its live performance aspect but also the unique perspective on two legendary artists: Bob Dylan and Hank Williams.

Kenny G, one of the best-selling instrumentalists in history, takes center stage with his smooth jazz saxophone playing. However, it's Rex Foster's lyrics that provide an interesting contrast to Kenny G's style. The song's narrative revolves around the theme of contemplating the end or beginning, as inspired by Bob Dylan and other influential figures.

The performance itself is a testament to the artists' ability to blend different styles and genres seamlessly. The inclusion of Eastside Flash on bass, Herb Belofsky on drums, and Kenny Grimes on electric guitar adds depth to the music. The Texas Music Café gang's filming captures the essence of the live performance, providing an intimate look at Rex Foster's rendition.

The lyrics themselves are a fascinating exploration of the human condition. Rex Foster's songwriting is reminiscent of Bob Dylan's style, with its poetic and often cryptic language. The references to Nostradamus, Quetzalcoatl, John Wayne, and other cultural icons add layers of meaning to the narrative. The song's themes of mortality, time, and the search for answers are timeless and universal.

This performance is a rare example of how different genres can come together in harmony. Kenny G's smooth jazz style provides an unlikely backdrop for Rex Foster's folk-inspired lyrics. The result is a unique sound that pays homage to the musical traditions of Bob Dylan and Hank Williams while still sounding distinctly modern.

The Kerrville Folk Festival, where this performance took place, has become a significant event in the music world. It brings together artists from various genres, creating an environment conducive to experimentation and collaboration. This footage serves as a testament to the festival's spirit and the power of live performances to bring people together.

As we watch Rex Foster perform "Thinkin Bout Bob Dylan," we're reminded of the enduring influence of these musical legends on contemporary artists. The song's themes of mortality, time, and the search for answers continue to resonate with audiences today. This rare footage provides a glimpse into the creative process and the ways in which artists draw inspiration from one another.

In this performance, we see Rex Foster not only paying tribute to Bob Dylan but also exploring his own artistic voice. The result is a captivating blend of styles that will appeal to fans of folk, jazz, and Americana music. This clip serves as a reminder of the importance of live performances in preserving musical heritage and inspiring new generations of artists.
