An Evening With Sevendust: Live From The Gothic Theatre 2014 (April 22 2014) AXS Tv. Lajon intro speech: "So listen, this next song, I feel like some songs have to be written; some songs you don’t want to have to write. But I feel like each and everyone of us are the same. So, we go through the same things and we are able to write songs, and it’s kind of like therapy, and I think its therapy for everyone. We have a song called “The Wait” have you guys every heard it? It could possibly be one of the hardest that we’ve done, because I would have never thought of us growing up; because we have known… listen… because if anyone knows each other its these guys right here, we’ve grown up together; we’ve have… I know their bad days, they know my bad days; I know I was there when Clint’s Daddy died, these guys were there when my little brother was lost; when Morgan’s grandma, all of us we were together. We never thought that we would have to go through that, but that is something that is a part of life. So I feel like that we all have these obscure obstacles that are put in front of us, but we have to continue to strive because it is never going to slow us down. Does that make sense. This song right here is called “The Wait” and this song is about John’s Daddy; and I hope you can understand where we are coming from! Are you with us tonight Denver!...." The Wait - Sevendust -Time Travelers and Bonfires (lyrics) I'm lost inside a dream alone, I'm hurt when all is lost I smile when I have grown, you say I've waited here so long, to comfort you and help To save you from your hell I pray The page will turn, a hand pulls away Let it go… let it go and close the door and let it be Our time will come, forever is a day Let it go... let it go, and close your eyes and find a dream As seconds burn, for now we'll wait… Send a message when you're home, watch with loving eyes So we’re never all alone, you're safe If there's forgiveness in our soul, then God I need it here To heal the wounds we tear today The page will turn, a hand pulls away Let it go… let it go and close the door and let it be Our time will come, forever is a day Let it go... let it go, and close your eyes and find a dream As seconds burn, for now we'll wait… The page will turn, a hand pulls away Let it go… let it go and close the door and let it be Our time will come, forever is a day Let it go… let it go, and close your eyes and find a dream As seconds burn, for now we'll wait… I can’t wait no more! Send a message when you're home…

About This Footage

Sevendust's "The Wait" - a poignant live performance that showcases the band's ability to tap into the collective pain and resilience of its members. Filmed in 2014, this clip is notable for its raw emotional intensity, which is palpable even through the lens of a live TV broadcast.

At the time of filming, Sevendust was at a crossroads in their career. Formed in 1994, the band had already weathered the ups and downs of the music industry, including the commercial disappointment of their self-titled debut album in 1997. However, it's clear that this experience only strengthened their bond as a unit. Lajon Witherspoon's introduction to "The Wait" is a testament to the deep-seated camaraderie within the band.

Witherspoon's words paint a picture of shared struggles and triumphs - a sense of solidarity forged through the trials of life. He speaks candidly about the song, which was written in tribute to guitarist John Connolly's father. The lyrics themselves are a poignant reflection on loss, longing, and the search for solace. "I'm lost inside a dream alone," Witherspoon sings, his voice cracking with emotion as he conveys the pain of separation.

What makes this clip rare is its unvarnished honesty. Sevendust's music has always been characterized by its raw, emotional intensity, but here it's tempered with a sense of vulnerability and openness. The band is not afraid to bare their souls on stage, and in doing so, they create a connection with the audience that transcends the typical live performance dynamic.

Viewers will take away from watching this clip a deeper understanding of Sevendust's music as a reflection of their collective experience. "The Wait" is more than just a song - it's a testament to the power of music to heal and transcend even the most painful of experiences. Witherspoon's words about the song being therapy for everyone in the room are particularly striking, highlighting the band's ability to tap into universal emotions.

Sevendust's performance on this night is also notable for its technical proficiency. The band's chemistry is evident as they navigate the complex arrangements and soaring vocals of "The Wait." Guitarist Clint Lowery's playing is particularly impressive, his solos weaving in and out of Witherspoon's powerful vocals with ease.

In a broader context, Sevendust's music has always been characterized by its Southern rock influences, but this clip showcases their ability to blend those roots with more contemporary sounds. The song's use of atmospheric instrumentation and soaring vocal hooks is a testament to the band's willingness to experiment and push the boundaries of their sound.

As Witherspoon concludes his introduction, he exhorts the audience to "be with us tonight." It's clear that Sevendust has created something special here - a live performance that transcends the typical concert experience. Watching this clip is like being in the room itself, surrounded by the energy and emotion of the band's music.

The final shot of Witherspoon's voice cracking as he sings "Let it go" is a haunting reminder of the power of music to convey even the most difficult emotions. It's a testament to Sevendust's ability to create something truly special - a live performance that will stay with viewers long after the clip fades to black.
