We can’t be on stage right now, so let’s go back to Reading Festival 2018 for a little bit of "Faint" with Mike Shinoda. A little back story to this performance. We had only decided to perform this song together about a week before the show. We had no rehearsal whatsoever. On the day of the show we were stuck at customs coming into the UK and it didn’t look like we were even going to make the show. We finally got cleared through and had to try and make our way through all the concert traffic which ended up getting us there 45 min before show time. We quickly said hello to Shinoda, confirmed we were still going to perform together and then scrambled to get ready for our set. It was such a blast to perform this song which is one my favorites, but also nerve racking at the same time. With no rehearsal and practicing in a hotel room a few nights before all I wanted to do was to come in with the utmost respect and try my best to honor the music, Chester, Mike and the Linkin Park band and LP family. No one will ever come close to Chester and that’s not what it was about for any of us. It was purely about the love of the music. About This Footage

This footage is a rare gem from Reading Festival 2018, where Sum 41's Deryck Whibley joined forces with Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda to perform an unforgettable rendition of "Faint". The clip's significance lies not only in the fact that it's a cover song but also in the circumstances surrounding its performance. With no rehearsal and just a week's notice, the two musicians came together to deliver a high-energy set that would leave fans breathless.

At the time of this performance, Sum 41 was still an active band, formed in Ajax, Ontario in 1996. They had built a loyal following with their pop-punk sound, but it's interesting to note that they were also known for their energetic live performances. This aspect is evident in the way Whibley and Shinoda interact on stage, feeding off each other's energy as they tackle Linkin Park's iconic song.

Linkin Park, of course, was a household name by 2018, with a career spanning over two decades. Their unique blend of nu-metal and alternative rock had captured the hearts of fans worldwide, and their live shows were always a testament to their musicianship. Mike Shinoda, as the band's co-lead vocalist and primary songwriter, brought his signature style to this performance, seamlessly transitioning between vocals and guitar work.

The fact that this performance was a last-minute decision adds an extra layer of excitement to the clip. With no rehearsal time, Whibley and Shinoda had to rely on their individual talents to bring the song to life. The result is a raw, unbridled energy that's palpable throughout the performance. It's also worth noting that this was one of the last times Linkin Park would perform "Faint" live, as they were in the midst of their One More Light World Tour at the time.

The clip's YouTube description provides valuable context to the performance, highlighting the logistical challenges Whibley and Shinoda faced before taking the stage. Despite being stuck at customs and arriving late, they managed to deliver a standout set that would be remembered by fans for years to come. It's clear that this performance was not just about showcasing their musical talents but also about paying tribute to Linkin Park's legacy.

One of the most striking aspects of this clip is the way Whibley and Shinoda interact on stage. Despite having no prior rehearsal, they seem to be in sync with each other, feeding off each other's energy as they perform. This level of chemistry is a testament to their individual talents and their ability to adapt to new situations.

In conclusion, this footage from Reading Festival 2018 is a rare treat for fans of both Sum 41 and Linkin Park. The circumstances surrounding its performance only add to the clip's significance, making it a must-watch for anyone who appreciates live music. As Whibley himself noted, "No one will ever come close to Chester" – but in this moment, he and Shinoda managed to capture the essence of Linkin Park's music, paying tribute to their legacy with a performance that would be remembered for years to come.

The clip ends with a poignant shot of Whibley and Shinoda standing together on stage, arms raised in triumph. It's a powerful image that captures the spirit of this unforgettable performance – one that will continue to inspire fans long after the music fades away.
