Welcome to 𝗠𝗨𝗦𝗜𝗖 𝗖𝗜𝗥𝗖𝗟𝗘 𝗕𝘂𝗱𝗱𝘆 𝗥𝗶𝗰𝗵 (1917–1987) was an American jazz drumming legend, known for his unmatched speed, explosive power, and technical brilliance. Born in Brooklyn to vaudevillian parents, he was already performing by age 3 as “Baby Traps the Drum Wonder.” By his teens, he was one of the highest-paid child entertainers in the country—second only to Jackie Coogan. His professional jazz career took off in the late 1930s, playing with icons like Tommy Dorsey, Count Basie, and Harry James. After serving in the Marines during WWII, 𝗕𝘂𝗱𝗱𝘆 𝗥𝗶𝗰𝗵 formed his own big bands, achieving iconic status in the 1960s with The Buddy Rich Big Band. His solos—especially on "West Side Story"—became the stuff of legend. Though he never learned to read sheet music, 𝗕𝘂𝗱𝗱𝘆 𝗥𝗶𝗰𝗵 could memorize and play complex arrangements by ear, stunning audiences with his lightning-fast rolls, stick tricks, and dynamic range. His influence still echoes in every genre, cementing his legacy as one of the greatest drummers of all time.
