Spann's Blues Otis Spann 1963 Mp4

Willie DixonMatt "Guitar" MurphyOtis Spann
1960s1963TV AppearanceRareLive

Otis Spann recorded for German TV in 1963. No rights here, only using the video for blues education. Otis takes off on a boogie woogie in A# and Willie Dixon comes in walking on that real bass right on time. they have got a groove locked down immediately. Matt "Guitar" Murphy strumming chords and Bill Stepney on drums. Otis' reputation is that he was easy going and got along and his positive energy can be felt in this performance. There isn't any of the folk element of blues here, this is fine ensemble playing by seasoned musicians. Somewhere around 2 minutes Otis snaps the fingers of his right hand to emphasize....that you don't hear any break in the rolling piano notes, do you? Great!

About Willie Dixon

William James Dixon was an American blues musician, vocalist, songwriter, arranger and record producer. He was proficient in playing both the upright bass and the guitar, and sang with a distinctive voice, but he is perhaps best known as one of the most prolific songwriters of his time. Next to Muddy Waters, Dixon is recognized as the most influential person in shaping the post–World War II sound of the Chicago blues.
