"Why I'm Here" — Oleander | Shrinking the Blob (1997) The fourth track from Shrinking the Blob — and the original independent recording of Oleander's most iconic song. Before "Why I'm Here" peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart, appeared on Dawson's Creek, and helped drive February Son to gold certification — it sounded like this. Raw, unproduced, and captured at Mousehouse Studios in Pasadena by producer Rich Mouser in 1997. This version actually predates even Shrinking the Blob — an earlier recording first appeared on Oleander's self-titled 1996 EP, making the Shrinking the Blob version the second known recording of a song that would go on to become one of the defining tracks of late 90s post-grunge rock. For fans of February Son, this is a rare chance to hear where it all began. From Shrinking the Blob — released independently on Fine Records in 1997 — alongside "Down When I'm Loaded," the regional hit that launched Oleander's career, and early versions of "Stupid," "You'll Find Out," and "Where Were You Then."
