About This Footage

This footage of Relient K performing live on November 17, 2005, is a rare gem for fans of the band and enthusiasts of early 2000s emo and Christian rock. Filmed at Soma in San Diego, California, during their "Panic With A K Tour," this clip offers a glimpse into the high-energy performances that Relient K was known for around this time.

In 2005, Relient K was riding the wave of success following the release of their album "Two Lefts Don't Make a Right...but Three Do" in 2003. The band's unique blend of pop-infused punk and Christian rock had resonated with fans, particularly among the emo and skateboarding communities. This tour, which supported their fourth studio album, was a testament to their growing popularity and ability to connect with audiences.

What makes this clip significant is its raw, unpolished quality. The shaky camera work and imperfect audio capture the frenetic energy of Relient K's live shows, where lead vocalist Matt Thiessen would often leap off stage and interact with fans. This footage, though not the best quality, conveys the band's infectious enthusiasm and commitment to their music.

This performance of "I Am Understood" is a standout track from Relient K's discography, showcasing the band's ability to craft catchy hooks and meaningful lyrics. This tour saw the band sharing stages with notable acts like Jimmy Eat World and The Used, further solidifying their reputation as one of the leading bands in the emo genre.

One aspect that sets this clip apart is its historical context. Filmed just a year before the release of My Chemical Romance's breakthrough album "Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge," this footage provides a unique snapshot of the early 2000s emo scene. Relient K, along with other bands like Fall Out Boy and Panic! At The Disco, would go on to shape the sound of the genre in the years to come.

As viewers watch this clip, they'll likely notice the band's chemistry and camaraderie. Matt Thiessen's interactions with guitarist Matt Hoopes and bassist Brian Pittman are a testament to their tight-knit relationship and commitment to their music.
