About This Footage

The 1982 clip "A1 M.I.A.'s - Out of Touch" is a fascinating glimpse into the underground scene of the early 80s. This rare footage, clocking in at just under four minutes, showcases the leadoff track from A1 M.I.A.'s sole release on the Lost label.

One of the most striking aspects of this clip is its rarity. With only a handful of releases to their name, A1 M.I.A.'s discography is woefully underdocumented. The fact that this 12" EP even exists is a testament to the group's dedication to their craft, and the Lost label's willingness to take risks on lesser-known acts.

The clip itself is a straightforward performance of "Out of Touch," but its value lies in its historical significance. Released in 1982, this footage captures the zeitgeist of an era that was still reeling from the punk explosion of the late 70s. The post-punk movement was gaining momentum, and A1 M.I.A.'s sound is a prime example of this genre's eclecticism.

The song itself is a blend of new wave and post-punk influences, with driving rhythms and angular guitar work. While not as polished as some of their contemporaries, A1 M.I.A.'s raw energy and intensity are undeniable. The clip's rough-around-the-edges aesthetic only adds to its charm, making it feel like a long-lost artifact from the early days of independent record labels.

The Lost label itself is also worth noting. As an imprint that operated on the fringes of the mainstream music industry, Lost was known for taking chances on experimental and avant-garde acts. A1 M.I.A.'s inclusion in their roster speaks to the label's willingness to push boundaries and challenge conventional wisdom.

While "A1 M.I.A.'s - Out of Touch" may not be a household name, its significance lies in its representation of a bygone era. This clip is a window into a time when the music industry was still evolving, and independent labels were giving voice to artists who might otherwise have gone unheard. As such, it's a valuable addition to any collection of rare and obscure footage.

The fact that this clip has been preserved for posterity is a testament to the dedication of those who collect and curate these types of artifacts. For fans of post-punk and new wave, "A1 M.I.A.'s - Out of Touch" is a must-see, offering a glimpse into a world that was once hidden from view.

In an era where streaming platforms prioritize polished production values over raw energy, it's refreshing to see footage like this. A1 M.I.A.'s performance is unapologetically rough around the edges, but it's all the more compelling for it. This clip serves as a reminder that even in the most obscure corners of the music world, there lies hidden gems waiting to be discovered.
