Tom Larkin is the founder and owner of Minijet Air Shows. Tom has always dreamt of becoming an air show performer, his pursuit of this ultimate dream became true later in his life, and he's an air show act you don't wanna miss! MINI JET AIRSHOWS is a lifelong dream of the pilot Tom "Lark" Larkin. Having watched the BD-5J perform as a child at a local airshow, and then later becoming a fighter pilot, airline pilot, and aerobatic pilot; it was always his dream to do airshows in a "mini" jet. ​ What started off as a half partnership in an RV-6 with his brother Larry, eventually turned into time in a Christen Eagle, Panzl, Staudacher, and several other aerobatic aircraft...culminating in the once in a lifetime opportunity to purchase and perform in a SubSonex Jet. At only 500 lbs with speeds up to 300 mph, it puts on one of most unique and exciting airshows in the country! ​ Now it's' all about "high energy" airshows and interacting with kids. As a filmmaker and storyteller, having the opportunity to spend five days with Tom Larkin at Garmin Kansas City Air Show was an experience of the lifetime, and his story shines inside and out the arena of air show performers. His passion to inspire others and his dedication of being a family man/father/husband while performing for thousands every year around the country is untouchable. The pilot, Tom "Lark" Larkin was afraid of roller coasters and often got air sick in airplanes as a child. After a brief stint with radio controlled airplanes, he started flying lessons at age 19 while in college, and he earned his private pilots license in 62 days. Tom received an Aerospace Engineering degree from Georgia Tech, and then entered the Air Force for pilot training in 1984. Tom was selected as a T-38 Instructor pilot, and then progressed to the F-15C. He was awarded Top Graduate in F-15 school, and he flew 22 missions in North Iraq in support of Operation Northern Watch and Provide Comfort. Tom later was selected as an Instructor for the Air Force Fighter Lead-In School in the AT-38. He left active duty in 2000, and now resides in the Denver, CO area. Tom is a currently a pilot, instructor, and evaluator in the 737 for a major airline. He has a wife of 30 years and a set of twins that are thankfully done with college! Tom has also participated in aerobatic competitions in the Christen Eagle and the Staudacher (a high performance monoplane similar to the airplanes you see in most airshows). He has also had brief stints flying a Pitts, Yak 55, Panzl, Rebel, Extra 300L, and Laser. Tom now performs exclusively in the SubSonex Mini Jet. Tom has over 9,000 hours total time in over 55 different aircraft, with approximately 8,000 hours of that in jets. ​ During the show, Tom will be performing a cross section of maneuvers that he routinely used while instructing and flying fighters in the Air Force.
