Desert Age is a feature documentary about the musicians, bands, and underground culture that gave birth to the Coachella Valley rock scene from the mid 1970s to early 1990s. Long before the desert became synonymous with Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age, and stoner rock, a community of musicians was creating its own sound in garages, bars, and generator-powered parties deep in the California desert. The film features Mario Lalli, Sean Wheeler, Brant Bjork, Joshua Homme, Jesse Hughes, Dave Grohl and others who were there from it's inception. The film also serves as a visual archive of this history. During production, I personally scanned and digitized rare photographs, flyers, vinyl, analog tapes, and other materials collected from musicians and participants in the scene. Many of these artifacts had never been publicly seen before.
