B.C. Read is an award winning singer , songwriter from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. He has spent over twenty five years refining his craft in some of the finest clubs and festivals throughout Canada, Europe & the northern US. With a unique style of Roots & Blues song writing that has received praise from all over the world. B.C.'s songs have been used in movies (Something More) and television shows (The Incredible Story Studio). His first two album's "My Tunes" (1998) and "Live" (2002) has been charted in the top 10 by Blues DJ's from as far away as Australia, Greece, Spain and Germany as well as in the US & Canada. His latest effort, "Bowl of Sugar" has also received wide praise from both fans and critics. It was nominated for a "WESTERN CANADIAN MUSIC AWARD" as the "Out Standing Blues Recording". B.C. Read's music is a mix of Chicago, Delta and Texas styles of Blues over a generous helping of Folk, Rock and Country. Comparisons have been made to The Band, Joe Cocker, John Hiatt, Slide Guitar Man Roy Rodgers as well as classic blues men like Son House and Big Bill Broonze. In the past B.C. Read and his band have backed up some of the greatest roots & blues players of our time, including Hubert Sumlin, Kenny "Blues Boss" Wayne, Anders Osborn, Joan Baez and opened for Keb Mo, Buddy Guy, John Hammond, Joe Louis Walker, Billy Branch, and many, many others. His original style of slide guitar has been praised by many of the countries great guitar players and B.C. has been asked to do many guitar work shops over the years. B.C. is the founding President (Past) of the Saskatoon Blues Society and keeps involved with "The Blues In Schools" program, a Blues education and performance workshop available to schools throughout Saskatchewan.
The Band were a Canadian-American rock band formed in Toronto, Ontario. It consisted of Canadians Rick Danko, Garth Hudson, Richard Manuel and Robbie Robertson and American Levon Helm. The Band's music combined elements of Americana, folk, rock, R&B, jazz and country, which influenced artists including George Harrison, Elton John, the Grateful Dead, Eric Clapton and Wilco.
