Album:The Beatles Anthology 1 Released:20November 1995 Recorded:12July 1958–18October 1964; 1977 & February–March 1994 Genre:Rock Label:Apple, Capitol Producer:George Martin, Jeff Lynne(Free as a Bird) THE BEATLES ARE COMING! Beatlemania aka The Fab Four was born in the late 1950's led by Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, Stuart Sutcliffe (original bass guitarist while Paul played 6 string guitar), and Pete Best(original drummer)before asking Ringo Starr (Richard Starkey) to join the band and to drop Pete Best.In addition Stuart died at age 21 from a brain hemorrhage on April 10, 1962. Introducing The Beatles coming out just 10 days before Meet The Beatles was released in January '64.After being turned down by record companies time again, it was not until Brian Epstein(The Beatles manager)saw The Quarrymen(The Beatles original band name)play at the Cavern Club in London in the early 60's who was inspired and signed them a record deal in May 1962 at EMI Records on Abbey Road. George Martin(The Beatles Producer)wanted to capture a live recording album of The Beatles playing live at the Cavern Club, but terrible acoustics in the club and bad sound quality made Martin deflate the idea. Therefore The Beatles made their first live band album to capture the club vibe(playing together few overdubs)in EMI studios instead during a long jam session at Abbey Road which became to be the Please Please Me album. The majority of The Beatles first album was recorded on one day in a 13 hr straight jam session on a BTR 2 track tape machine. The album was a mixture of covers and Lennon/McCartney originals. The Beatles Anthology 1 art work is brilliant and is a combination of early Beatles Mark 1, Mark 2, and Mark 3 band era photos. Two years prior to The Beatles getting a record deal with Beatles producer George Martin, Beatles manager Brian Epstein, and The Beatles recording their debut album Please Please Me/Introducing The Beatles there was the August 1960-early August 1962 Mark 2 Beatles line up.Mark 2 Beatles line up made a handful of recordings and club appearance's.In addition some of the earliest recording's that can be found and heard from the Mark 2 Beatles line up with Pete Best on drums are the 1962 New Year's Day lost Decca Record sessions which was a Beatles audition recording session for a SHOT and a FIGHT to get a record contract deal. The 15 songs were chosen by Brian Epstein for the audition. In addition the session took place 165 Broadhurst Gardens in West Hampstead district in north London on January 1, 1962.All recordings were recorded live on a mono tape machine without overdubs and remixing. Unfortunately The Beatles were again turned down by record company Decca, and even EMI rejected the lads too at times. Brian Epstein and The Beatles meet up with A&R man and Parlophone Label organizer George Martin on Wed June 6, 1962 at London's Abbey Road studio for a final battle for a recording contract. This was the only recording session taken place at Abbey Road studio's with drummer Pete Best before Ringo Starr joining the group in August 1962. The Beatles with Pete Best recorded a few songs during this session audition outtakes such as Besame Mucho, Love Me Do, P.S. I Love You, and Ask Me Why. Only a couple tapes were saved over the years from this June '62 session. I believe Pete Best was playing his 50's early 60's white marine-pearl Premier drum kit during the Mark 2 Beatle years. Besame Mucho was an early Beatles live stage act favorite for their early live setlist. The Beatles based this cover on the '61 band single by The Coasters. The Beatles even added their own flavor like the "Cha-cha Boom!" to it. Floor tom beat in 4/4.Can't tell if he was playing his hats open on the recording or just a very thin sizzly cymbal with sizzler rivets in it at times in the recording, could be the mics feeding back. I used my 18" Zildjian LV-80 Low Volume crash/ride cymbal and sizzler chain to capture the sound at times on the recording. The recording/mix is not remastered that great just a live performance recording with no overdubs and can be hard to make out what exactly was going on in the recording. Again it's hard to hear exactly what's being played through the mix. Check out the early Beatles drop-T logo bass drum heads I drew for early Beatle vibes. About Pete Best

Randolph Peter Best (né Scanland; born 24 November 1941) is a British retired musician who was the drummer for the Beatles from 1960 to 1962. He was dismissed shortly before the band attained global fame and is one of several people referred to as a fifth Beatle. Best's mother, Mona Best (1924–1988), opened the Casbah Coffee Club in the cellar of the Bests' house in Liverpool. The Beatles (at the time known as the Quarrymen) played some of their first concerts at the club. The Beatles invited Be...
