Rare Footage of a Supernova Explosion that Happened in Centaurus A
This video, showing a supernova explosion in the Centaurus A galaxy, represents about 1.5 years of time, omitting the first frame which is a legacy image from 2010 and was created by Judy Schmidt using data from the Hubble Space Telescope. The blueish ring that expands outwards following the blast is a light echo produced by light reflecting off cosmic dust and reaching the telescope with a delay relative to the distance from the source.
