About This Footage

This clip of Muddy Waters, Johnny Winter, and Mojo Buford's Blues Band performing "Going Down Slow" is a rare gem that highlights the enduring legacy of blues music. Recorded live in 1983, this footage showcases the collective talents of three iconic artists who helped shape the genre.

Muddy Waters, often referred to as the "father of modern Chicago blues," brings his signature style to the performance. His playing has been described as "raining down Delta beatitude," a testament to his mastery of the blues sound. Waters' influence on Winter is evident in this clip, and it's clear that he had a profound impact on the younger guitarist.

Johnny Winter, who passed away in 2014, was an American singer, guitarist, songwriter, and record producer known for his high-energy blues rock albums and live performances. His slide guitar playing is unmistakable, and in this clip, he brings a level of intensity to "Going Down Slow" that's characteristic of his style.

Mojo Buford, the drummer for the Blues Band, rounds out the trio with his own brand of blues expertise. The interplay between these three musicians is seamless, creating a rich tapestry of sound that's both nostalgic and timeless.

The fact that this clip was recorded in 1983 makes it all the more remarkable.
