7 The Easter Monkeys - Babylon Falls 9.7.1991
When I interviewed Jim Jones in May 1991 he said that he anticipated The Easter Monkeys playing at the infamous Babylon A-Go-Go, but what neither of us could know was that the when I arranged their debut at the club, it happened to come on the last night it was open. Babylon A-Go-Go opened in 1989 and closed in September 1991 with a big all-night party packed with bands, many of which had played there before. The Easter Monkeys were a band from the early 1980s and had recorded a number of songs for an album that wasn't released until 1991, called Splendor of Sorrow. It has since been reissued on CD with bonus songs on it. Not just because it was Babylon's final night, but this performance was extra special because joining Jim Jones (guitar), Chris Yarmock (sax and vocals) and Charlie Ditto (bass) was former Clevelander Anton Fier on drums. He was in town from New York, where he has been living and playing in bands for years.

The La's were an English rock band from Liverpool, originally active from 1983 until 1992. Fronted by singer, songwriter and guitarist Lee Mavers, the group are best known for their hit single "There She Goes" (1988).
