The Candidate: Bobby Charles

This week, Bobby Charles became the first high-profile Republican to announce that he was running for governor in 2026, but he won’t be the last. Most observers expect a crowded field of candidates in both parties, and perhaps even some prominent independent campaigns as well. Charles sat down for a video podcast with Maine Policy Institute to talk about his vision of the future for Maine, and why he decided to run for governor. Our conversation with Bobby covered his personal biography and background, and his three main campaign promises: cutting crime, cutting taxes and a leading a no-nonsense government. We also spoke about education, the cost of living, and the conflicts between Maine’s current governor, Janet Mills, and President Trump.
