About Seether

Seether are a South African rock band founded in 1999 in Pretoria, Gauteng. About This Footage

The footage of Seether's "Broken" featuring Amy Lee is a rare gem from the early 2000s, a time when post-grunge was still reigning supreme and nu-metal was just beginning to fade into obscurity. Released in 2002, this music video is significant not only for its hauntingly beautiful visuals but also for the fact that it marked one of the first major collaborations between two prominent rock acts.

At the time, Seether was still finding their footing in the US market, having changed their name from Saron Gas just a year prior to avoid confusion with the deadly chemical. With Shaun Morgan's distinctive vocals and guitar work, they were slowly building a reputation as one of the most promising new bands on the scene. Meanwhile, Evanescence's Amy Lee was still a relatively unknown quantity, but her powerful voice and piano-driven soundscapes were already making waves in the industry.

The "Broken" music video is notable for its stark, atmospheric visuals, which perfectly capture the song's themes of heartbreak and despair. Directed by Phil Harder, the video features Amy Lee on piano, adding an extra layer of emotional depth to the track. The clip's use of muted colors and haunting imagery creates a sense of foreboding, underscoring the song's sense of desperation.

What makes this footage truly remarkable is its historical significance as a snapshot of early 2000s rock culture. This was a time when nu-metal and post-grunge were still dominating the airwaves, but a new wave of bands was beginning to emerge, pushing the boundaries of what was possible in rock music. Seether's collaboration with Amy Lee marked one of the first major crossovers between these two genres, paving the way for future collaborations and fusions.

Watching this footage today, it's clear that "Broken" remains a standout track from Seether's discography. The song's driving rhythms and haunting melodies continue to resonate deeply with fans, while Amy Lee's guest appearance adds an extra layer of emotional depth to the track. For those who grew up on early 2000s rock, this music video is a nostalgic trip back to a time when post-grunge and nu-metal were still king.

The fact that Seether has continued to thrive over the years, releasing gold-certified albums and topping Billboard charts with their anthems "Broken," "Fake It," and "Words as Weapons" is a testament to their enduring talent and dedication. With their new album The Surface Seems So Far promising to captivate both loyal fans and newcomers alike, it's clear that Seether remains a beacon of integrity in the rock music world.

As you watch this footage, pay attention to Shaun Morgan's distinctive vocals and guitar work, which perfectly capture the song's sense of desperation. Note how Amy Lee's piano-driven soundscapes add an extra layer of emotional depth to the track. And listen closely for the hauntingly beautiful melody that drives the song forward, a true masterpiece of early 2000s rock music.
