Jamey Ryan ~ Try A Little Kindness (1969) [LIVE]

From an episode of the "Del Reeves Country Carnival," as originally broadcast on The Outlaw Music Channel. Jamey Ryan is an American Country Music singer, born in Texas in 1947. A cousin of singer Goldie Hill and Songwriter/Producer Tommy Hill, Jamey came to Nashville in her teens to launch a singing career. She started out recording demos for the writers at Starday Records, where she met Charlie D**k, Patsy Cline's Widower, who was the National Director of Promotion for the label. Jamey and Charlie were married in 1965, and she gave birth to their son "Chip" the following year. Jamey signed with Columbia Records and recorded 3 singles for the label, scoring a minor hit with "You're Lookin' For A Plaything" in 1967. Without further success, she left Columbia and signed to ShowBiz Records, the fledgling music operation of ShowBiz Inc. ShowBiz was the production company behind many of the major Country Music TV shows of the day, including "The Porter Wagoner Show" and "The Wilburn Brothers Show." Jamey also signed on as the featured female performer for ShowBiz's "Del Reeves Country Carnival" TV program. Jamey recorded a number of singles for the ShowBiz label, having a minor chart hit in 1969 with her cover of the Allen Toussaint song "Holy Cow." She remained with the label, and "Del Reeves Country Carnival" until 1972 (the same year she and Charlie D**k divorced). Jamey signed with the Country division of Atlantic Records, and recorded a few sides with Producer Pete Drake, scoring her third and final chart entry with "Keep On Loving Me" in 1973. Jamey recorded for a couple of small labels in the late '70s, but eventually stopped recording and touring, and went to work behind the scenes in the music business. In a twist of irony, many people hear striking similarities between Jamey's vocals and those of Patsy Cline. So much so that, in 1984, legendary Producer Owen Bradley asked Jamey to provide vocals for two recordings to be used in the movie "Sweet Dreams" about Patsy's life. In 1991, Jamey also recorded Patsy's "I Fall To Pieces" for use in a TV Commercial about the Mazda RX7 sports car. Today, Jamey is a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She and Charlie D**k remained good friends for the remainder of his life, and she is especially close to Patsy and Charlie's children, Julie and Randy, and their families.
