This was one of their very last gigs, as their final performance was in December 1992, less than two months later. Note that the setlist is filmed at the 11:02 point, which is where we get the name of the unreleased song! Most of their set is taken from their final album 'Dogeared', which is a must-purchase for anybody who is a fan of groups like Velocity Girl or Tsunami or labels like Teenbeat. There's a heartbreaking yet hilarious exchange at the 41:40 point. Trish: "So y'all know we're Vomit Launch and you know that Vomit Launch does not sound like the name Vomit Launch and then asks, "So, does anybody have a really lame joke?" Someone in the crowd...okay, Larry(!)...impulsively yells out, "Yeah, you." Trish then trails off "except for this band", with Larry then announcing they're going to play one more song and get their s**t off the stage for the real bands can play. Of course, they then blaze out with the caustic, stunning "Unsafe With Fewer Drinks" and exit to rapt applause. Very, very few bands call it a day at the peak of their songwriting and performing, but this one chose to do so, the reasons being, to quote the Vomit Launch website, "The music climate was changing - post-Nirvana [ed. note: they were on a bill together once opening for Mudhoney, with VL billed above the fledgling Aberdeen group!] the big labels seemed to be coming in and picking up any stupid band with loud guitars - but Vomit Launch didn't fit that mold. Plus they still had this dumb band name. Writing began for a fifth album, but even though Mad Rover had renewed their contract, concerns grew over whether the label could even release an album without a P&D [pressing and distribution] deal in place. Would it be another year of waiting for an album to come out? What once seemed like such an adventure, and a special joy shared by very close friends, was now fraying. The group had always promised themselves that this would be music made by friends and that it would be fun. Looking forward things didn't look so good. In November Vomit Launch announced it was disbanding. On December 11th Vomit Launch took the stage for the last time, at Duffy's Whispering Clam Room (co-owned by Doug Roberts), and played two long, passionate sets of all the songs they could recall. In a haze of beer and tears, they called it finished." And yes, there's a video of their last show. One day...
