The Last Domino? Tour began in Birmingham, UK in September 2021. The tour made its way to the US with this show beginning in Chicago November 16, 2021. Previously the set list, which remained the same at all the shows did not contain “Misunderstanding”. Rather the band performed “Duchess” instead. It was the first time Genesis had performed “Misunderstanding” live since 1984 and the end of the “Mama” Tour. They had performed a small segment of it at the tribute to Atlantic records in 1988, and Phil had performed it on his solo tour. “Duchess” had not been performed live in many years, and fans were thrilled to see it in the Setlist, and indeed the band reported enjoying performing this song as well. However, with “Misunderstanding” having been such a huge hit in the US, the first “big hit”for Genesis in the US in fact, the band thought it would be a good idea to include it in the set list for the US leg of the tour. The song entirely penned by Phil Collins is a huge fan favorite. With social media platforms making information available in many cases in real time, news spread like wildfire of all the songs in the Setlist. Unlike in the past, when it was almost a surprise to find out what they were playing, fans knew exactly what to expect, and in what order. Chatter on the various Genesis Fan sites and fan pages began a groundswell to bring back “Duchess” And that is just what they did. So this particular performance is very rare and unique now, as it was the only city that got “Misunderstanding” on this tour. Backing vocalists, Patrick Smyth and Daniel Pearce lend nice melodic harmonies to the backing vocals. And by this time in the tour, Phil’s voice had gotten stronger, and I believe that his melodic intonations on this song show that improvement and strength of vocal performance, especially compared to a few of the earlier shows on the tour. And I think Phil really likes performing this song, so it was with great disappointment for me that they didn’t continue to include it in the set. Although I love “Duchess,” and was thrilled that they included it. I just wish I could’ve done both.
R.E.M. was an American rock band formed in Athens, Georgia, in 1980 by drummer Bill Berry, guitarist Peter Buck, bassist Mike Mills, and lead vocalist Michael Stipe, who were students at the University of Georgia. R.E.M. was noted for Buck's arpeggiated "jangle" guitar playing; Stipe's distinctive vocal style, unique stage presence, and cryptic lyrics; Mills's countermelodic bass lines and backing vocals; and Berry's tight, economical drumming. In the early 1990s, other alternative rock acts suc...
