Filmed in 2023, this 58-second clip is part of an interview series that showcases Denison's creative process and his connection with his community.

At the time of filming, Denison Witmer was already an established artist with six studio LPs under his belt. His music had been gaining momentum since the release of his debut cassette, My Luck, My Love, in 1995. With a unique blend of folk, rock, and Americana influences, Denison's songs often spoke to themes of love, community, and introspection. This clip is significant because it humanizes the artist, allowing viewers to see beyond the music and connect with the person behind the songs.

What makes this footage rare is its intimate nature. Unlike typical promotional clips or interviews, "Building Community" feels like a candid conversation between friends. Denison's ease with Donovan Roberts Witmer, the producer and director of photography, creates a sense of comfort that allows him to open up about his creative process. The clip's raw, unpolished quality is refreshing, offering a glimpse into the artist's everyday life.

As viewers watch Denison building community in Lancaster, they'll take away a deeper understanding of what drives this artist. They'll see how he connects with his surroundings and the people around him, using his music as a way to foster relationships and build bridges. This clip is more than just an interview; it's a testament to the power of art to bring people together.

The setting itself is also noteworthy. Lancaster, Pennsylvania, may not be a city typically associated with the music industry, but Denison has made it his home. His roots in this community are evident in the way he speaks about its people and places. The clip's use of natural light and handheld camera work adds to the sense of intimacy, making viewers feel like they're experiencing the moment alongside Denison.

Donovan Roberts Witmer's direction is also noteworthy. As producer and DP, he brings a clear vision to the project, allowing Denison to shine in his own environment. The result is a clip that feels authentic and true to its subject. Michael Rothermel's editing adds to the sense of flow, making the 58-second clip feel like a mini-documentary.

In an era where music promotion often relies on slick production values and carefully crafted narratives, "Building Community" stands out as a refreshing exception. This clip is a reminder that sometimes the most compelling stories are those that are told simply, without pretension or artifice. By sharing his life and work with such vulnerability, Denison Witmer invites viewers to connect with him on a deeper level.
