The Rob Franken Electrification Rob Franken - el.pi. Ferdinand Povel - tenor sax Joop Scholten - el. gi. Koos Serierse - el. b. Henk Zomer - dr. Nippy Noya - perc. Recorded: November 20, 1974 From the album 'Colours & Images - Functional Stereo Music 5', released by 678 records Between 1972 and 1983 piano player Rob Franken (1941-1983) was the main man & instigator during the so-called FuMu sessions. Functional Music that was meant to sound like background music in shopping malls, hotels, elevators, department stores and airports. Franken arranged the sessions, played Fender piano and synthesizers and drew from his immense network of musicians to collaborate with. The recordings were often nothing less than inspirational short jam sessions, in which the best Dutch jazz musicians of the seventies contributed. The independent label 678 Records has released an exclusive choice from this enormous library of 'functional stereo music'. DJ's P-Dog & Zembie (AKA Sander Huibers & Frank Jochemsen) have compiled some of the best tracks, dirtiest breaks, funky compositions, fat bass lines, and especially exuberant keyboard work by Franken. Compositions of Billy Cobham, Weldon Irvine, Michael Naura, Marc Moulin, Gordon Beck, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock and of course Rob Franken himself. The authentic photo material used for the covers was made in the seventies for advertising purposes by Koos Serierse & Robby Pauwels. The cover designs are made entirely in seventies style by Piet Schreuders. The six albums were released on vinyl, limited to 500 copies.
