I do not own the copyright to this recording. This video is for historical and educational purposes According to an ex-manager who accused Mattie Dorsey of being a lesbian, she was born probably in Atlanta, GA. between 1892-1895. She made her debut in 1910 as a member of the Whitman Sisters Troupe, a vaudeville act. Dorsey eventually left the act to carve out a career of her own working with several pianists as a male impersonator. One of the pianists that she worked worked with and claimed to have trained was "Pinetop" Smith. Dorsey fell out of view in the news after 1920, but when she cut her two records in 1927, one reviewer called her recording "Love Me Daddy Blues", "Not bad for a female baritone". Nothing else is known about Dorsey. (As a note, the vague photo on the right-hand side of the CD cover is of Dorsey). Mattie Dorsey:Vocals Troy Snapp:Piano Recorded in Chicago, IL. c.
