By the time 1991 came around, Johnny's four year relationship with Mercury Records had reached breaking point, to the extent that this LP, "The Mystery Of Life"...his fifth for the label, was to be his last...they parted company soon after it's release, and it was not a big success. That doesn't mean that it was a bad LP, though...in fact, it had at least one moment of brilliance...this pairing of two country legends. Ol' T wrote the song, and both he and Johnny have sung it as solo artitists...but, with this duet, the song really comes alive. After the steel guitar intro, it comes as a bit of a surprise to hear Johnny's voice, simply because that's not the sort of instrumental backing I'd normally associate with Johnny Cash...but, the song, with it's slightly Gospel overtones, comes together brilliantly. It was re-issued in 2000 on the CD "The Mercury Years"...that album failed to make the US Country charts. *** If you like my channel, why not SUBSCRIBE?
