(Aired June 13, 2012) BRANDEE YOUNGER for Capsulocity.com: If it's rare to see a harp nowadays, check out Brandee Younger's music and know that you've at least heard her before. The classically trained harpist from Long Island has played and recorded with some of the top names in music, including John Legend, Common, Drake and Ravi Coltrane. Younger released her debut EP, "Prelude" and in June 2011, the EP was recorded in an analog studio with bassist Dezron Douglas, drummer E.J. Strickland and vocalist Niia. She received her undergraduate degrees in Harp Performance and Music Business at the Hartt School of Music in West Hartford Connecticut. Following the death of Trayvon Martin, Younger recorded a special track called "He Has A Name (Awareness)" (http://brandee.bandcamp.com/), with proceeds going to the NAACP. About This Footage

In a rare glimpse into the world of classical music's intersection with contemporary sounds, Brandee Younger's harp performance on "Season 1, Episode 6" of Capsulocity.com in 2012 is a standout moment. At the time, Younger was already making waves as a classically trained harpist pushing boundaries in her music.

Younger's bio paints a picture of someone who has spent years honing their craft, with an undergraduate degree in Harp Performance and Music Business from the Hartt School of Music in West Hartford Connecticut. Her early work had already garnered attention, with credits including collaborations with notable artists like John Legend, Common, Drake, and Ravi Coltrane. This was no small feat for someone who had only just started to make a name for themselves.

The specific performance on Capsulocity.com is significant because it showcases Younger's ability to blend classical technique with contemporary sensibilities. The fact that this clip exists at all is remarkable, given the relatively rare sight of harp performances in popular music. According to the YouTube description, Younger had already released her debut EP "Prelude" in June 2011, which was recorded in an analog studio with a talented ensemble.

What's striking about Younger's work during this period is her commitment to making the harp a more relevant force in today's music. Her goal, as stated on her website and social media profiles, is to bring the instrument into the mainstream. This ambition is evident not just in her performances but also in her collaborations with artists from diverse genres.

The clip itself, clocking in at 6:24, offers a glimpse into Younger's artistry during this time. The performance of "My Funny Valentine" is a testament to her technical skill and expressive range as a harpist. It's clear that she is not just playing notes on a page but conveying emotions through the instrument.

One aspect worth noting is Younger's response to social justice issues, particularly in the wake of Trayvon Martin's death. She recorded a special track called "He Has A Name (Awareness)" and donated proceeds to the NAACP. This commitment to using her platform for good highlights her dedication to creating music that not only showcases her talents but also has a broader impact.

For viewers watching this clip, it's likely that they will be struck by Younger's unique sound and the way she brings the harp into a contemporary context. They may also appreciate the historical significance of this performance as one of the early examples of Younger's innovative approach to her craft. Ultimately, "Season 1, Episode 6" serves as a reminder that the boundaries between classical and popular music are often blurred, and it's up to artists like Brandee Younger to push those lines further.

Younger's influence can be seen in her ability to blend different styles and create something new. This clip is not just a historical artifact but also a testament to her vision for the harp as an instrument capable of expressing a wide range of emotions and ideas. As she continues to make music that defies categorization, it will be interesting to see how Younger's legacy evolves over time.
