Michael Bloomfield, 1943-1981 Michael Bloomfield & Friends play "Sweet Little Angel" in concert at Western Washington State College in Bellingham, WA, in January 1974. Roger "Jellyroll" Troy is the vocalist and bass player, Mark Naftalin is on keyboards and George Rains is the drummer. Bloomfield passed away 37 years ago on Feb. 15, 1981, and this selection is offered in remembrance of his great artistry.

R.E.M. was an American rock band formed in Athens, Georgia, in 1980 by drummer Bill Berry, guitarist Peter Buck, bassist Mike Mills, and lead vocalist Michael Stipe, who were students at the University of Georgia. R.E.M. was noted for Buck's arpeggiated "jangle" guitar playing; Stipe's distinctive vocal style, unique stage presence, and cryptic lyrics; Mills's countermelodic bass lines and backing vocals; and Berry's tight, economical drumming.
